I'm just not about using AME to render AE projects. When AE finishes a render AME could grab that file and start making an H.264 automatically. If you want your H.264s you could look into Watch Folders in Media Encoder. Once you go to the Queue you should see each item you set up to render in each project ready and waiting. They'll come in with all the assets and the Queue in-tact. At the end of the day start a new project and import the projects that need rendering into the new project. Open the next project, complete it, add to the Render Queue, save, close, open next, rinse, repeat. If you need to render more than one project just add it to your Render Queue, set everything up, then save the project and close it. This is my suggestion based on what you describe. If it's viable for your workflow consider delaying rendering for overnights. If you can separate the encoding from the rendering I think you're making a good workflow choice. H.264 uses some frames to help compress other frames better. The other side is DNx saves each frame discretely. mov (format is call H.264) in Media Encoder is a 64 bit multi-threaded process that's muuuuch faster. Encoding H.264 in After Effects is a 32 bit single-threaded process. For starters, DNx is a higher quality master, but more importantly it's faster for AE to save. If you need H.264 render DNxHD/DNxHR then transcode to H.264 in Media Encoder. Stop rendering H.264 out of After Effects. If someone could please give me a hand on how to use media encoder effectively so I can stack up a que and forget about doing that method of editing and rendering and open up use of After Effects while my videos render would be great. Right now though more convenient for working on videos, I get more rendered if I stick to my backwards method. So the reason I ask is that if I can get the Media Encoder render time down to something like 1.5hrs-3hrs it would be worth the trade. Operating System Microsoft Windows 10 (build 10586), 64-bit Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4810MQ CPU 2.80GHz This however takes just over 5hrs to render. Takes about 1.5hrs for a 15min file on average SO I dusted off Media Encoder to see if anything has changed when I ran into the same issue a while back. But it doesn't help that I have to open each AE file before rendering and then AE is out of commission while rendering. I've also tried editing all the videos and then rendering them after the fact. Which is a HUGE burden if I edit one video and render and wait and then repeat that. You see what I'm trying to do is render episodic videos. What renders faster After Effects or Media Encoder? I got some conflicting answers and in truth I couldn't find the exact thing I'm looking for. Ok so I've been lurking through a few places on the web to find the answer to this.
